Prairie dogs have many characteristics that help them survive in the prairies conditions, such as having very strong arms so that they can make their homes, they also need long claws for that. They were also made with big eyes too so that they can see when predators are coming and to scout for food.

The predators of the black tailed prairie dog are manly small animals that can get into the prairie dogs holes like the endangered black footed ferrets and and snakes. some other predators are golden eagles, coyotes, various hawk species, foxes, badgers and bobcats.

habitat

Black tailed prairie dogs live mostly in borrows underground that can be a simple hole in the ground to a vast complex system of tunnels and pathways underground. These vast complex borrows can be used and a safe way to get away from predators because they would know the tunnels better than the predator.

A prairie dogs diet is very limited but they are omnivores. They mostly eat grass and small seeds but they will eat insects. when a prairie dog gets hit by a car sometimes they will eat each other (the one that was hit by the car).

But their shelters also help with many other animals protection an shelter, such as snakes, borrowing owls, chipmunks, skunks, gerbils, mice and voles. They also serve as food to predators.
